Jean Twenge to discuss iGen: Advice for the Smartphone Generation

Jean Twenge, a leading expert of the iGeneration, will will present a public lecture entitled, iGen: Advice for the Smartphone Generation.

Traditional-age college students are now iGen (born after 1995), the first generation to spend their adolescence with smartphones. iGen'ers are growing up more slowly, spend more time online and less time with their friends face-to-face, and are more likely to experience unhappiness, anxiety, depression, and sleep deprivation. We'll discuss ways to find a balance with technology, leaving time for activities more beneficial for physical and mental health.

Twenge's visit is a part of the Park School's Media for Social Responsibility initiative of the Kesh Center for Global Communications Innovation.

Dr Twenge offered a very well informed and researched assessment of i-gen. As a mental health practitioner her work with the impact of isolation and technology was of particular interest. I am enjoying her book and bringing her results to my department.
