This Strange Bedfellows artist will present a performance workshop as part of his project “Friends of Dorothy,” a body of work deconstructing the myths of home and identity through investigating The Wizard of Oz and The Wiz. Collaborating with impersonators of queer icons Diana Ross and Judy Garland, Mateik’s performances play with personification and identification of heroine Dorothy Gale. During his visit Mateik will recruit volunteers from the community to participate in the production of a new collaborative performance project based on Frank L. Baum’s Oz sequel, The Army of Revolt.
April 11 at noon, the Army of Revolt production will take place in the Handwerker Gallery with Tara Mateik.
