In celebration of Black History Month, the Dorothy Cotton Jubilee Singers (DCJS) will be hosting an open rehearsal on February 26th.DCJS fosters deep connections and learning within the Ithaca community, bringing together residents from diverse backgrounds. Participants include parents, professionals, and retirees, some with musical experience and others without, all contributing passion and commitment. The group also serves as an educational platform for Ithaca College students, who have been involved in performances and leadership since 2012.

The DCJS has expanded its reach to local youth, including children from the Southside Community Center, students from local schools, and its own Dorothy Cotton Youth Singers. The group's mission is to educate and inspire through the history and significance of "Negro Spirituals." Performances often include narrations explaining the deeper meanings of the songs and with occasional formal presentations.
