CFE: Enhance Engagement with Slow Reads

Wednesday, March 26, 2025 11:00am to 12:00pm EDT

The Center for Faculty Excellence invites you to join colleagues Jonathan Ablard and Robert Sullivan for an interactive workshop on Slow Reads , a powerful “low stakes, high impact” pedagogy that has been gaining momentum at Ithaca College and many colleges across the US. Faculty from all disciplines are invited to learn how they can bring this enriching practice into their own teaching. Jonathan, who is currently leading a Slow Read on Naomi Klein’s Doppelganger this semester, and Robert, a longtime advocate of the practice, will share their experiences and insights on how Slow Reads can foster deep learning, student engagement, and energize faculty instruction.

With seven Slow Reads currently offered at IC on topics ranging from Moby-Dick to the films of Terrence Malick, this initiative is poised to grow. We hope you'll join us!

Light refreshments available.
