Contemporary Works for Small Chamber Ensemble

This evening’s concert features a collection of smaller percussion ensemble works, ranging from duos to quartets. Percussion music is often associated with a playfulness, and that is very present throughout these pieces, as the performers bubble water through tubes, bump into each other while playing, and play a wide variety of “non-musical” instruments, including bottles, pots, bowls, pipes and slats of wood. Though the element of play presides, these pieces are no less technically demanding, and the musicians showcase that virtuosity wonderfully in this program.
