About this Event
Friday, 4/12/2024 7:00pm | Hockett Family Recital Hall: Vocal Chamber Music and Madrigal Singers Free, open to the public
The selections on our program revolve around intense connection with spiritual and earthly matters. Music is an expressive medium, but functions introspectively as well. Each of these pieces is a deeply felt meditation on complex desires, whether for passionate love (Paulus’ Lotus Lovers), or for divine redemption (Stradtman’s Amazing Grace). For many of us, the blending of the sacred and secular is the reality of life, that we are complicated and layered beings with fundamental needs in many areas. This coming together of the whole person is represented in Adinu, with a text based on a poem by Ibn ‘Arabi: “I follow the religion of love, wherever love is found.” Clearly this notion of overlapping spirituality and humanism is also represented in Sheehan’s setting of God’s Grandeur: “The world is charged with the grandeur of God.”
