Synopsis: Professor Shackell will discuss her recent publication in the IMA’s Strategic Finance Journal, https://sfmagazine.com/post-entry/march-2021-reversing-the-ratchet-effect/. She will discuss how trust can impact the accounting measures and targets that are used for performance evaluation.

Speaker: Margaret B. Shackell
Margaret’s current role is Assistant Professor of Accounting in the School of Business at Ithaca College, having served on its faculty since 2017. She teaches Managerial Accounting (primarily to sophomores), Cost Accounting (juniors), and Contemporary Issues in Accounting – including analytics (graduate students).
With twenty years’ experience in higher education, Margaret has received a number of awards for excellence including the Institute of Management Accountant’s Lybrand Award (four times) and the University of Notre Dame, Mendoza College of Business Dincolo Award.
Margaret currently serves the American Accounting Association Management Accounting Section as Membership Outreach Committee Chair (2015-Present), and she has held other leadership positions within the AAA.
Margaret has served on the faculties of Cornell University, Binghamton University, and the University of Notre Dame. Prior to joining the academy, Margaret spent seven years in public accounting practice, and three years developing professional educational materials for a public accounting firm. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant in Canada and earned BA and MAcc degrees from the University of Waterloo and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan
