About this Event
Studies show that women apologize more than men, and report committing more offenses. Sometimes these apologies are necessary and deserve the weight and sincerity of a true apology. However, apologizing for something that doesn't need it can convey lack of confidence, and more importantly, diminish the sincerity of a true apology. It's like the boy who cried wolf - if we apologize for everything under the sun, then a true, warranted apology will not be as meaningful. This session will discuss what situations warrant an apology, how to convey an effective apology, and some strategies to stop ourselves from apologizing unnecessarily. We'll also talk about why and how our culture encourages us to over-apologize, especially as folks socialized as women.
